Compass Kids Crew is an iOS app for children ages 4–12 that makes screen time intentional. Kids earn free-choice video time by first watching curated educational content. No autoplay. No ads. No rabbit holes.
Every major streaming platform is engineered to maximize watch time. That is a business model problem masquerading as a parenting problem. Compass Kids Crew is a direct response to what I kept hearing in therapy sessions: parents who felt they had no real tools to make screen time something other than a battle or a black hole.
Parents of children ages 4–12 who want screen time to be intentional, not just permitted. Families who are not anti-technology but want to be thoughtful about how it fits into their children's lives. The parent who keeps losing the negotiation and wants the structure to do the work for them.
The need for a truly parent-controlled video experience for young children. Existing platforms optimize for engagement — which means autoplay, suggested content, and infinite scroll are by design, not by accident. The opening was clear: a neutral, structured, and genuinely calm alternative.
An iOS app that places educational content first and gates free-choice viewing behind a learning goal. Parents set daily limits, allowed channels, age tier, and a minimum learning time. Kids work through Brain Power, Big Heart, and Fun — in that order. Crew Control keeps parents in charge behind a parental gate.
Because the problem is structural, not personal. Parents do not lose the screen time battle because they lack discipline; they lose because the system they are fighting is infinitely better resourced than they are. Compass Kids Crew redesigns the system itself — so the default outcome is intentional, not just permitted.
Set the child's age tier, daily screen time limit, how many minutes of learning unlock free-choice time, and any allowed or blocked keywords. Protected by a parental gate.
Kids start in Brain Power — curated educational videos matched to their age. Big Heart unlocks next. Only after completing the learning goal does Fun become available.
Daily usage summaries, watch-time totals by category, and iCloud sync across family devices. Parents always know what their child watched and for how long.
