Privacy Policy

Compass Kids (Compass Kids Crew) — Last updated: March 22, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Compass Kids (“we,” “our,” or “the app”) handles information when you use our iOS application. It is intended to meet requirements for the Apple App Store, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) where applicable, and YouTube API Services developer obligations.

Official web copy: This page is hosted at employee-one.com and matches the in-app policy bundled with Compass Kids Crew.

Third-party terms and policies (YouTube & Google)

YouTube Terms of Service. Our Terms of Service include a direct link to the YouTube Terms of Service (https://www.youtube.com/t/terms) and an explicit statement that you agree to be bound by those YouTube terms when you use the App. Please read our Terms together with this Privacy Policy.

Google Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy links to Google’s Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy, which describes how Google may collect, use, and share information when you use Google services including YouTube.

Who May Use the App

Compass Kids is designed for families with children roughly ages 4–12. The app should be configured by a parent or legal guardian using the Crew Control area. Children should use the app only with appropriate supervision.

Information We Collect

Information stored on your device (and iCloud)

We do not operate our own servers to collect or store your family’s data. The following may be stored using Apple’s on-device storage and, if you use iCloud, Apple’s iCloud Key-Value Store:

Data synced through iCloud is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. We cannot access your iCloud data.

Information we do not collect

YouTube API Services

The app uses YouTube Data API v3 to search for publicly available videos and to obtain metadata needed to display results (for example, titles, channel titles, thumbnails, and video identifiers). Playback may occur through YouTube’s embedded player experience subject to YouTube’s own policies. Your use of those features is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service as described in our Terms of Service and to Google’s practices described in the Google Privacy Policy.

We use API data only to operate the app’s search, display, and playback features inside Compass Kids. We do not use YouTube API data to serve advertising in the app, and we do not resell API-derived data.

Search traffic may be subject to technical caching on the device (for example, HTTP cache with bounded size) to improve performance. That cache does not change our practices described here.

Data deletion policy and access revocation

This section is our data deletion policy and explains how you can delete Compass Kids–related data and revoke access through Google where applicable.

What we store

We do not operate our own user-account servers for the app. Parent settings, age tier, and usage summaries are stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in Apple’s iCloud Key-Value Store. We cannot log in to your device or Apple account to erase that data for you.

How to delete your data

Revoking Google account access

To review or revoke third-party access connected to your Google account (for example, if you ever authorized API access), use Google’s Security Settings page for connected apps and services: https://security.google.com/settings/security/permissions. Compass Kids does not require you to sign in with Google for basic search and viewing.

Notifications

If you enable notifications, summaries and reminders are scheduled using Apple’s local notification APIs on your device. We do not send those messages through our own backend.

Parental Gate

Crew Control is behind a parental gate (a short verification step intended for adults). We do not use that mechanism to collect personal data.

Children’s Privacy (COPPA)

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 for our own business purposes. The app is structured so parents configure controls and children explore curated content. If you believe we have inadvertently received information from a child, contact privacy@compasskidscrew.app and we will take appropriate steps.

Users in the European Economic Area, UK, and Similar Regions

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing of personal data, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Because processing for our app is largely on-device and within your Apple ecosystem, many requests can be addressed by deleting the app or managing iCloud data in Settings. You may still contact us at privacy@compasskidscrew.app for questions.

Security

We rely on Apple’s platform security for on-device storage. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we encourage keeping your device software up to date.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes may also be noted in App Store release notes where appropriate.
